Employer Paid Covid-Related Leave Tax Credits

The mandate to provide paid leave under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) expired on December 31, 2020, but employers may continue to allow employees to take the paid leave until September 30, 2021 and receive tax credits for providing the leave.

The FFCRA’s goal of helping to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus was successful, and employers may benefit from continuing to allow the leave as an incentive for employees to say home when they have symptoms or test positive; thereby keeping their workplace and employees safe.
